CRISPR & Beyond: A Decade in Review – Reflections on the idea of enhancement

In the last decade, the CRISPR Revolution rekindled a profound interest in the potential of genomics reminiscent of the Human Genome Project’s impact in the 1990s. It has renewed scientific, ethical, and regulatory questions on a range of areas that are potentially touched by genome editing, such as the idea of enhancement.

In this seminar, our expert panel will share their insights on the idea of ‘enhancement’ and if, or how, has the notion of ‘genetic’ enhancement evolved in recent years? How does it engage with the debates on human genome editing? Are we concerned about human enhancement in genetics in ways that are different from other forms of enhancement, such as robotic-based interventions? These questions hold significant relevance, particularly in light of the WHO Human Genome Editing Report of 2021, which identified enhancement as one of the key challenges to be addressed.
