ECEN: Organisational Ethics and Ethics Support

The European Clinical Ethics Network (ECEN) will have its 12th Open Forum Day (OFD) on September 23rd 2026 in Leuven. This is one day prior to the opening of the EACME-conference. This year’s topic is “Organisational Ethics and Ethics Support”.

CfA:

Clinical Ethics takes place in Health Care Institutions. What makes an institution “moral” and in what way could ethics consultation support this process? Organisational ethics addresses ethics principles, such as autonomy or justice, on a supra-individual level: ethics in the organisation and ethics for the organisation.

Possible topics related to Clinical Ethics Support (CES):

  • Ethical challenges in health care organisations
  • Justice and ethics support
  • Moral deliberation with health care staff on organisational issues
  • Teams and moral issues of teams
  • Governance and policy as instruments of ethics support
  • Allocation of scarce resources and open prioritisation
  • Ethics and economy
  • Evaluation of ethics in the organisation (e.g. ethical climate, organisational resilience)
  • Integrated and structured ethics support in the organisation
  • Training and training programs concerning organisational ethics
  • “My special program” (report on ethics support in health care institutions)
