ACP-i Webinar
What’s in the ACP-pill in Japan?
Time: 30th August 2024, 8-9am UTC
Venue: Online
Organization: ACP international society
Advance care planning (ACP) has been actively promoted nationwide since its introduction in the revised guidelines for end-of-life decision-making in 2018. However, advance directives or healthcare proxies are not yet legally established, and many debates exist regarding the pros and cons of promoting ACP.
The speakers will provide an update on the current situation, challenges, and opportunities of ACP in Japan, with a focus on cultural aspects in clinical practice, education, research, and public awareness regarding ACP. Like other Asian regions and other parts of the world that honor family-centered decision-making styles and implicit rather than explicit communication, Japanese culture presents unique challenges and opportunities for ACP.
The ACP international society is very much look forward to discussing more effective approaches to ACP and welcomes your perspectives!
Speakers and program design:
Masanori Mori (Division of Palliative and Supportive Care, Seirei Mikatahara General Hospital, Hamamatsu, Japan) and Sayaka Takenouchi (Department of Nursing Ethics Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, Japan)
Costs: None
