Research Retreat for PhD students and Early Career Researchers
Gendered Ageism in Health Care for Older Adults
Gendered ageism refers to the intersectional discrimination based on age and gender, which significantly impacts the health and well-being of older adults. Despite growing awareness of gender and age-related biases in healthcare, the combined effect of these biases remains underexplored. This research retreat, which take place in Erlangen and will be jointly organized by the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and the University of Heidelberg, aims to bridge this gap by fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue among early career scholars. The program will engage participants from Germany and Europe in a comprehensive analysis of the manifestations of gendered ageism in various healthcare settings, including mental health and palliative care. It will also explore strategies to mitigate the effects of this form of discrimination. By combining theoretical frameworks from feminist bioethics and practical approaches to healthcare equity, the program seeks to develop actionable insights and promote a more inclusive and just healthcare system for all older adults.
